If you’re a OnePlus One user, then this could be something you’ve been waiting for a bit. The good news is Cyanogen OS 12.1 – the Android 5.1 update for Cyanogen OS – will be rolling out over the air (OTA) to OnePlus One devices starting today, and will do so for other Cyanogen OS devices in the next few days. The update looks promising, so let’s dig in.

So what’s new in Cyanogen OS 12.1? You get a new LiveDisplay feature, where the screen now adjusts better to environmental and sensor data. Cyanogen is also pushing its browser, saying that it is way faster and better than other browsers out there. Cyanogen OS 12.1 also brings support for a lot more media file types as it has a better list of codecs.

Other than the new features, the update also provides critical security fixes to address the batch of recently publicized vulnerabilities on Android devices. The update is a good 600MB plus download, so it might take a while. Make sure you are on a strong wifi connection when you do the update.

The OTA should be hitting OnePlus One users pretty soon, but if not, you can also manually download and install the update from the Cyanogen support downloads page (linked below). Just be sure you know your way around flashing images and ZIPs, and make sure you have a backup of your data.
