It took a while for EA to put out a sequel to the popular 2009 action adventure game “Mirror’s Edge”, and when they did make a new game out of the seemingly forgotten franchise, it was a reboot of the game called “Mirror’s Edge Catalyst”. The new game launched for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and PC today and now has a companion Android app to boot.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst still retains the trademark first-person parkour-type exploration, although this new game will be a bit more open than the original. The graphics are getting a noticeable bump, but that’s what happens when you wait almost a decade to follow up a game. The new game will use the Frostbite 3 engine which powers games like Star Wars: Battlefront and the upcoming new Battlefield game. The app will act as a handy map of the city in the game, and you’ll really need one because of the size of the city.

The app also ties into the “social play” features of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, which allows players to compete against each other in challenges. The companion app will show you where your friends are in the city, and tell you when your times have been beaten. Aside from that, the app also manages your user generated content and challenges.

As mentioned, game has probably launched when you read this, so you can install the app right now. It is free to download, but pretty useless if you don’t have a copy of the main game.
