It may be long before the smartwatch industry is saturated. It just started last year but 2015 has already proven to be a big year for this wearable category. More device makers and startups are entering the game with their own versions in different shapes, sizes, and materials. We’ve shifted from rectangular to round smartwatches and from bulky ones to slim and sleek types. Most run Android Wear platform while some are powered by brand-specific custom wearable OS like the Tizen.
Another brand entering the market is Chronos. This tech startup from San Francisco aims to deliver technology to the watch industry. The idea is to transform any classic watch into a smartwatch so you can use it as a fitness tracker or receive notifications. The Chronos is a small disc that can be easily attached to a timepiece to add the digital features.
The Chronos isn’t a totally new smartwatch but it can make any timepiece “smart”. It won’t try to make your watch into a super smartwatch as features are limited. You can use it to display notifications with the vibration options and multi-color lights. This means you will have to depend on vibration and lights to tell you if there is an incoming message or call. You can even set notifications for apps you need to be notified of.
Pre-orders are now open for the $99 Chronos. It’s the discounted cost before it hits the $129 retail price. A Chronos Double Pack is $189. If you want it to come with a real watch from Elliot Havok or COURG, get the Chronos + watch bundle for $169 and $389, respectively.

Nice. We can use it with a watch band that won’t cause strange allergic reactions. I’m looking at you, fitbit.
