We have seen some smartphones already incorporating pressure sensitive displays (ZTE Axon Mini, Huawei Mate S) but it’s still not what you might call a trend. But when reports are saying that most of the Chinese smartphone makers, including Xiaomi, Meizu, etc are already incorporating this innovation into their next devices, then you might say that it will become more common, and maybe even a standard, in the next few months. That is, if said reports are credible enough.
An industry insider is saying that Xiaomi, Meizu, OPPO, and Vivo are already in the process of developing pressure sensitive displays for their next round of new smartphones. Even the Nexus 2016, which will be manufactured by HTC, is also said to have one as well. Google will also supposedly make it a standard for Android devices. That may not be surprising since rival iPhone 6S has already trained the Apple fans to force touch their devices.
But probably the earliest device that might be launching soon and will have the pressure sensitive display is the MX6 flagship. That’s because this has long been rumored to be one of the selling features of the upcoming smartphone, expected to launch in a couple of months.
OEMs that already have this feature haven’t really maximized the full potential of this rare display innovation yet mainly because there are only a few apps that have use for it. But maybe now that the Chinese OEMs will supposedly be adapting the pressure sensitive display, we’ll see more developers thinking of ways to apply it to their apps and software.
