Car manufacturers are slowly catching up to the connectivity craze. Recently, Chevrolet announced that their new models will be carrying support for Android Auto, Google’s new platform for auto mobile connectivity. Now, it’s the turn of General Motor’s luxury brand, the Cadillac, to be integrated to your other mobile devices. Their upcoming 2016 models will have Android Auto support, which brings hands free calling and texting, as well as getting your smartphones or tablets connected to your new Cadillac.
Adding Android Auto to the new Cadillacs is all part of their enhanced Cadillac User Experience (CUE). Users will be able to access it through the 8-inch CUE touchscreen that is included in each of the cars. There will be a button on the steering wheel that will go together with the voice commands functions, which is a much safer way of accessing the infotainment system without fiddling so much with buttons and taking your eye off the road while driving.
The Android device will need to be connected through USB, but if your car has wireless car charging, you can also use it, that is if your device supports it too. You can also be connected through the OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi that some of the Cadillacs have. The CUE will also be updated to have faster processors and a simplified navigation system. If you will be getting an Escalade, CTS, and XTS, your CUE will also be able to display a 360-degree view of your perimeter.
There are no exact dates yet as to when Android Auto will be integrated into the 2016 models, only that it will be done at a later time. It seems that they are prioritizing putting Apple CarPlay first, as they are set to be included in the ones to be released early 2016.
