Breitleng has made a name for itself in creating watches that are specifically made for people who fly planes because of several factions tailor-made for pilots or those who want to be one someday. But now they have released something that can be considered a smartwatch, or at least a notification watch. The Breitling Exospace B55 can both serve as a tool to complement other aviation tools while at the same time, notify you when you receive important messages.
The Exospace B55 has a high-end quartz movement with advanced timing features, including a multifunction electronic chronograph. But it can also receive notifications from several apps, specifically SMS, emails, messaging services, phone calls, calendar appointments. The names and information will be displayed on the small LCD screen once you receive them. You won’t be able to do anything about them though, but at least you know that something important (or unimportant) was received.
The watch also uses the Caliber 55 which has “SuperQuartz” which will not give you superpowers but it does mean that the quartz crystal has been tested at various temperatures and situations. But at the heart of it all, this device really is for the aviation experts as the functions have been tailor-made for pilots, including the electronic tachymeter, recording “block times” and flight times, plus various other technical terms. The watch also uses a rechargeable battery system which is chronometer-certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute.
The price and availability of the Breitling Exospace B55 is not yet known at this time, but we can probably expect that it won’t be cheap of course. So the people who will probably get these are those concerned with the aviation industry, or those who just like expensive and beautiful-looking smartwatches.
