For music enthusiasts, there are times when you just want to shut out the world and immerse yourself in your favorite tunes. But there are also times when you’d want to share with everyone else what it is you’re currently listening to. More often than not, that would require you to have two different gadgets. But a new Kickstarter project called Boomphones Re-Up says you’ll need just one, with its headphones and portable speaker in just one package.

Basically, with just one press of a button, you’ll be able to turn the headphones into a decent portable speaker. It also comes with a speaker case that serves as protection for the headphones, brings you better sound because of additional built-in speakers, and even allows you to charge either the headphones itself or your smartphone since it has an internal battery. It should last up to ten hours, both the battery of the Re-Up and its battery case as well. You will also be able to take calls with both the headphones and the speaker since it has an internal microphone.

Now of course, quality-wise, you won’t be able to compare it to the leading brands. The internal speakers have a frequency response of 20Hz to 20Khz. The external speakers meanwhile have a range of 150Hz to 20kHz. So you see, it will not give you the quality you’re probably expecting, but it’s pretty good enough for a 2-in-1 device. You also get LED lights that glow so it can tell you if it’s in speaker mode and adds to the style of the headphones as well.

The developers want to raise $50,000 for this project on Kickstarter. Currently, they’ve already raised $28,496 and there are still 16 days to go before the campaign ends. You only need to pledge at least $99 to be able to get your hands on a pair of Boomphones Re-Up. Estimated shipping date is by August of next year.
