It seems that instant mobile messaging is fast becoming a new standard in communication. With over two billion IM users all over the world today, there is a close competition among messaging apps. We mentioned earlier that Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and WeChat are the most popular ones and Google has new plans to work on a messenger that uses chatbots. While these tech giants are working hard to improv on their systems, BlackBerry has already proven what it can do in this area with the BBM.

Unfortunately, there is only a small percentage of BlackBerry users. However, with the release of the first ever Android-powered BlackBerry phone, at least, the Canadian smartphone company has found a way to stay in the business. CEO John Chen himself disclosed that the Priv sold well last quarter. That’s good news because that means BlackBerry will remain in the hardware business with the possibility of rolling out a midrange phone if things turn out well in the coming months.

BlackBerry has always been true to its promises including those related with Android security and mobile privacy. When it comes to its native BBM, BlackBerry is still committed to security and privacy as delivered by the recent udpate. Since mobile users are demanding for better interactions, improved visibility of information, and more control over messages, the BBM was recently updated with new features: in-app search, about to “like” posts, categorized results, and new notifications.

You may also expect better message retraction and editing. Some more features include Android Broadcasts and Glympse. Feel free to send broadcast messages to contacts in a category of your choice. And with Glympse, request for location information from your contacts.
