Well, Best Buy let the cat out of the bag when they posted a preorder page for the Motorola Xoom  on their website yesterday.  And plenty of people not only noticed, but they also noticed the steep $1200 price tag, which everyone thinks it 50% higher than was expected.  Now the retailer has pulled the page after a collective lurch in the blogosphere over the super $1,000 pricetag.

The Motorla Xoom can go head to head with the iPad if the price is right.  But if that price is nealry twice that of the Apple tablet, it isn’t likely to go anywhere, Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) notwithstanding.

And chances are, the post was merely a place holder (we’re betting that’s Best Buy’s official excuse for pulling the page), especially since Motorola hasn’t announced pricing yet on the Xoom, which is rumored to be coming February 24th.

    • Yes they are considering that the ASUS EEE Transformer will be $400 – $600 and the iPad 2 is rumored to be getting a lower price. So if iPad 2 is getting a lower price imagine what the remaining 1st gens will cost.

  1. yeah, i woke up finding that out yesterday, it put a damper on my plans.

if the price indeed is near the 800 dollar sum everyone was thinking, i probably will jump on it and become a first for the tablet…

however, i will not buy a tablet for the price that i can buy a 16gig wifi only ipad and an UNsubsidized iphone 4, with 100 to spare.

Unless of course this tablet has the ability to pay a few months rent.
