Ever since it was acquired by Apple last year, Beats hasn’t released a new product yet, and fans of the audio product company, or at least their work before the acquisition, have been eagerly awaiting what they’ll come up with next. The wait is over as they have announced the Beats Pill+, a wireless Bluetooth speaker that should be familiar to owners of the previous Beats Pill, except that it’s slightly bigger and that the design has clearly been influenced by its new owner.
Using the Beats Pill+ isn’t really rocket science, as the controls are simple and the design is minimalist. There are only four buttons on top of the speaker, power, play/pause, and volume up/down. At the back, you’ll see evidence that it really is an Apple baby, as there is a Lightning port. But there is also a full-sized USB port so other devices can also connect and there even is a standard 3.5mm audio jack.
Within the tiny speaker lies two tweeter speakers and two woofers, so the sound quality should be good on paper. It also has a battery life of up to 12 hours. And to fully maximize all the features of the Beats Pill+, a companion app will be released to help you control volume and access other modes like “DJ mode” which lets you connect two devices to a single speaker. You can also use the app to sync two Beats Pill+ to use at the same time or in different rooms of your house.
The Beats Pill+ will be available in black or white and is priced at $230. It will be available in Apple’s online and retail stores, as well as authorized Beats sellers, by November.
