Both Verizon and AT&T have already announced that they will be offering the BlackBerry Priv. AT&T actually released the first ever Android-powered BlackBerry phone last Friday under different Next plans. As far as wireless charging is concerned, we weren’t told if it will be supported or not. But good news to those planning to get the new smartphone, the AT&T model of the new Priv from BlackBerry will support wireless charging.
Wireleess charging is relatively a new technology but a lot of phone manufacturers are going that direction because of ease of use. It’s very convenient as there’s no need for annoying and unruly cables. There was confusion at first because BlackBerry announced that “Only devices purchased via ShopBlackBerry in the USA will support wireless charging”.
That could mean other models from mobile carriers might not have wireless charging. But then again, there’s no reason why such won’t be enabled even if a unit isn’t from BlackBerry directly. True enough, the AT&T model also supports wireless charging when tested on a generic Qi mini charger and using a Samsung EP-PG9201.
Aside from wireless charging, Priv also supports PMA charging. Wireless charging should work on most charging pads but there may be instances when it won’t. We’re not sure why but we’re hoping a little bit of trouble shooting will fix the issue. As for your AT&T BlackBerry Priv, no problem in getting the smartphone all set up and ready for being your new workhorse phone.
