For Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners on AT&T, the wait is over for your July 1 security patch, even though it’s almost August already. The carrier announced the rollout of the update that will bring your devices to Android build number MMB29M, weeks after T-Mobile followed by Verizon released theirs for the same devices. There isn’t much in the software update changelog, but as you probably know by now, these security updates are pretty important.
The update announcement from AT&T says that it’s bringing software updates to setup and transfer, Wi-Fi calling, IPME, and AMBS Phase 3, but did not offer any explanation as to what those are bringing to your device. But really, it doesn’t matter as long as the security patch does its magic and protects your device from untoward vulnerabilities like last year’s fright over Stagefright.
Actually, it would have been better if this July 1 patch would have come already with the July 5 update that Google also released. But the hardware-oriented update has also not yet reached the other carriers with the two flagships from Samsung, so it probably will come out in the next few days or maybe even by August.
As always, it would be best if have a stable WiFi connection when doing the update, plus your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge will be sufficiently charged. You can manually check if the update is already available by going to your System category in your Settings, then About device > Software update > Check for updates.
