While we still don’t have the unlimited plans of our dreams (meaning actual unlimited and not the throttling we get now), carriers are trying to make it up to us by offering features that will help save data while at the same time still give us the content that we want to consume. Fresh off their recent merger with Time Warner, AT&T is now bringing a new video offering called WatchTV that will be available as an option with two new unlimited wireless plans.
Basically, WatchTV will bring your (hopefully) favorite live TV channels so you can watch on any smartphone, tablet, web browser, and selected streaming devices. Obviously, the channels are Time Warner-owned like AMC, Animal Planet, Cartoon Network, CNN, Sundance TV, Tru TV, etc. Aside from the more than 30 live channels, you also get more than 15,000 TV shows and movies on demand, also from Time Warner properties of course.
The two new plans that AT&T will be rolling out are the Unlimited &More and the Unlimited &More Premium. There are no full details yet about both but we do know that the former will give you the option to add Watch TV plus a $15 credit towards DIRECTV if you want more live TV and up to 4G LTE unlimited data. The latter meanwhile also gives you the option to add one more premium channel which includes HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz or music streaming services like Amazon Music Unlimited and Pandora Premium. You also get 15GB of high-speed tethering and high-quality video.
There will also be a standalone WatchTV subscription for $15 per month in case you just want to add it to your current plan. More details about the unlimited plans will be announced when they launch next week.
