When something is still in the rumors and leaks stage, you probably will not want to hear about how expensive it will be. But apparently, this is one of the “selling points” of the rumored new Chromebook for the ASUS, the C302CA. While of course a new Chromebook will be met with interest, how will people respond to something that will supposedly have really high-end specs but may cost an arm and a leg? This is also interesting since there are rumors that Samsung may be working on one too, but not as expensive of course.
The C302CA, just like the other Chromebooks from ASUS, will also have a hinge that can flip back 360-degrees so the laptop can also become a tablet. It will come with a 12.5-inch touchscreen display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and is expected to have an Intel Core m3-6730 processor inside. It will have 8GB of RAM, 32GB of eMMC for internal storage but not an SSD for some reason. It will also have Google Play support soon, although no date yet as to when this will officially roll out to Chromebooks.
The ASUS Chromebook might also come with a silo so you can place a stylus there, which may be a bit like the Samsung Chromebook Pro. While based on these specs, it seems like it’s a pretty powerful laptop, the rumor that it will cost around $870 might still be too expensive for a lot of people looking for an affordable one from ASUS. It is actually on par price-wise with the more high-end and more fully functional Windows-based laptops.
There is no news yet as to when an announcement from ASUS about this Chromebook is imminent. We’ll keep an eye out for you and you should start thinking if you’d be willing to shell out that amount of money for something like this.
