Because the world will never get enough of new gadgets, it’s time for phone makers to come up with unique design or cool features if they want to thrive in an industry that’s already saturated. But of course, there are still those who know what geeks really want and how much there are willing to pay, being geeks themselves, like Ammunition who has recently announced the Obi Worldphone. The world phone reference makes it seem like a premium smartphone that can be used anywhere in the world and this one is indeed something you can show off, what with the high-end technologies from Google, Dolby, Sony, Samsung, Qualcomm, Mediatek, Japan Display, and Corning all integrated inside.

The Obi Worldphone comes in two variants: the SF1 and SJ1.5. The people behind the company are all experts in their respective fields and come from big firms like its co-founder Robert Brunner for Ammunition and former Apple and Pepsi-Cola head John Sculley for Obi Worldphone. These two have joined forces to bring new smartphones that feature all the best of Silicon Valley from design to technology to the standards in manufacturing. The goal of the group is to bring powerful products at attractive prices—not compromising the design, specs, and features.

The market for low-end and affordable entry-level smartphones may be big today but time will come when people will demand for higher specs and more value for money. Actually, it’s already happening now in the mid-range phone category with devices that are affordable but loaded with premium specs that can very well compete with other flagship models.

OBI WORLDPHONE SF1 SJ1.5

The Obi Worldphone SF1 is the flagship model that boasts of impressive photography and audio features. It’s already 4G/LTE-capable and comes equipped with a 5-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 screen, dual-SIM slot, microSD card slot, 3GB RAM, 32GB built-in storage, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 13MP camera with Sony IMX214 Exmor sensor, Qualcomm ChromaFlash camera technology, and Qualcomm’s UbiFocus camera feature. As for the phone’s audio, the SF1 uses Dolby Audio technology for high-quality sound, bass, dynamic range, and fidelity–promising a cinema-style entertainment experience all the time. Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 1.0 power management technology is also included. All these and more are packed inside the $199 2GB RAM/16GB model or the $249 3GB RAM/32GB version.

The Obi Worldphone SJ1.5 is definitely cheaper because it only features 3G connectivity. Other specs include a MediaTek MT6580 Quad-Core processor, 2.5D curved glass screen, dual SIM slots, 16GB of built-in storage, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display, and front and rear-facing cameras. The Android Lollipop-runnning SJ1.5 is very much affordable at $129.
