As Google finally starts officially rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Nexus devices and other selected smartphones and tablets from various OEMs, four new videos appeared on their YouTube channel. Heralding their new tagline of “be together. not the same”, the ads feature Androidify characters in different situations (some funny, some cute, some confusing) that highlight the various special Android platform devices.

If you’re not familiar with Androidify, it’s an app where you can create personalized characters to make the Android avatar look more like you (or at least the character you want to be) and you can upload it on the global network. The characters in the videos actually come from user submissions. Three of the ads highlight the three platforms where Android is present: smartphones (through cameras), tablets and smartwatches. The fourth one just highlights, well we’re guessing, fun.

One video is called Garage Band (no relation to the Apple software) and shows a four piece “band” using a smartphone camera to take a video of their performance in the…well, garage. Another is called Break Room and shows how a smartwatch can make you clumsy (we’re hoping the character’s wearable was waterproof). The third one is called scary movie and shows how watching something on a tablet can be quite a temptation for your plane seatmates.

The fourth video is called Slightly Longer Road Trip and shows a party bus type of vehicle with Androidified characters having fun with an old school fun rap song (good luck getting the song out of your head) on all kinds of Android devices. The videos don’t necessarily highlight Lollipop features (which have already been covered in depth) but is more of a celebration of Android itself. And if you want your Androidify character to be part of their next ad series, just keep creating fun ones on the app and keep uploading it to the community.
