Finally, Google is starting its expansion of its mobile payment gateway Android Pay as they announced that people living in the United Kingdom will finally get to use it too. The promise of other countries to be added soon is still there, but for now, it’s only people in the UK who will be able to enjoy contactless payments both for offline and online transactions, through the power of an app and your smartphone.

There really is no complicated machinery or process involved in activating this payment gateway. First, you have to make sure that your smartphone supports Android Pay already. Then you need to download the free app from the Google Play Store if your device doesn’t have it installed yet. You enter your card details once you have the app, and if your bank is any of the currently supported ones (Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA and Nationwide Building Society) then you will be all set to go and spend.

Android Pay can be used in high street stores like Boots, Starbucks, Waitress etc. You can also use it for transportation with Transport for London like for the Tube (that’s the underground railway system, if you didn’t know it yet), bus, and train. And even for some online transactions for your apps like JD Sports, Deliveroo, and YPlan among others, your checkout will be faster and smoother.

Every month, there will be an Android Pay Day, where several stores and brands will offer great deals on the last week before pay day, with Starbucks UK and Deliveroo among the first to treat customers. They will be adding more banks in the UK soon and more territories like Singapore and Australia will also be able to enjoy Android Pay.
