People have just naturally assumed that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will actually be arriving for the mid-tier Samsung Galaxy A series. While there has been no official word from the OEM, people have been expecting an announcement anytime now, that the major Android update isn’t limited to the flagship line only. Now it seems there may be “proof” that it will indeed happen, but for now, it’s only supposedly for the Galaxy A5 (2016) and the Galaxy A7 (2016).
The proof comes in the certification of regional versions of the aforementioned two smartphones. The date of last certification shown is April 21 so it is fairly recent, and it shows that the Operating System for both devices is Android, version 6.0. There has been no certification running around for the other Galaxy A devices, although the Galaxy A3 (2016) and the Galaxy A9 should also be in line for a major update soon, if the A5 and A7 will indeed be receiving theirs.
However, there are no dates indicated for the rollout to the devices. Usually, the updates come weeks after a renewed Wi-Fi certification has been published. Knowing Samsung though and its Marshmallow history, that may be longer than the usual. And even though OEMs release estimated dates, lately they’ve been pretty unreliable.
It would a good move though if Samsung would really be updating the Galaxy A series to Marshmallow. Not everyone would be able to afford a flagship device, but even those who have mid-tier ones would like a major update every once in a while.
