One of the things that some people were looking forward to having once their smartphones were upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the Google Now on Tap. But while it’s now been around for a few months, some people might still not know what to do with it. And so Google released a short video ad on YouTube, showing people what the feature can actually do and to demonstrate how easier your life can be if you utilize it.
Basically, Google Now on Tap takes away one or two steps from what you would normally do on some of your apps by making cards available whichever app you’re on. For example, you’re chatting with a friend on where you should meet for dinner next week. He mentioned a restaurant you’re not familiar with, but instead of switching to the Google app so you find out more about the place, you just tap and hold the home button. A card will then pop up and you’ll see all the info you need like reviews, the map, operating hours, etc. Plus, you’ll also see a Create Calendar event option and so you add your dinner to your calendar, all without leaving the app.
So instead of constantly switching back and forth between apps, or copy pasting information, you can now just stay on the app you’re currently using and still get additional info. You can even book movie or concert tickets if you become interested in the card you’re currently viewing. While some actually find the going from one app to another easy and natural, there are those that just want to not app multi-task, and Google Now on Tap is the perfect feature for them.
There is no news yet if this feature would be available later on for non-Marshmallow devices. But that would be a neat idea and will be a source of comfort for those whose devices will not get updated.
