Well, that didn’t take long. After only a few hours of the Android 5.0 factory images from the Nexus 9 tablet being available to the hacking public, someone has already rooted the device. That someone is Chainfire from XDA Forums. Not only did he root the device, he also created a 64-bit build of the SuperSU binary.
Rooting the Nexus 9 is a bit more complex than rooting other Android devices thanks to the CF-Auto-Root framework not being able to patch live kernels, which is a requirement on Android 5.0. That means you have to do the root manually, but the process seems easy enough.
The process involves enabling fastboot oem unlock in the developer options, executing fastboot oem unlock, executing fastboot intect.img, and then fastboot flash boot patched.img. There is also a YouTube video out there that shows the entire root process.
That video is 4:37 seconds long, if you’re fast you might root your device in about that much time. If you have a Nexus 9 and follow these root steps, be sure and let us know how well it works for you. There is an entire thread on Nexus 9 rooting on XDA Forums.
