Google Assistant has been pretty handy for heavy Google users, particularly those using the Allo messaging app. In fact, one in every 12 messages have used its assistance when in group chats within Allo. However, most of the features are of course in English. That is, until now. Google has announced that they are adding support for Brazilian Portuguese and Hindi for the Google Assistant and Smart Reply features in Allo. Those who speak the languages will now be able to use the app in both their native language and in English, if they prefer to be bilingual.
Aside from adjusting it the old school way, through the language settings on your device, you can also do it the cooler way. Simply tell your Google Assistant to “Talk to me in Portuguese” or “Talk to me in Hindi” if you’re trying to use the feature in a conversation in Allo. If what you need to know is specific to India or to Brazil, just add @google to your chat and they will be able to provide the answers to you, hopefully to your satisfaction.
You will also be able to use the languages in the Smart Reply feature in Allo. When you don’t have the luxury of typing long responses since you’re chatting on the go, you can now quickly answer in both Portuguese and Hindi when chatting with someone. For example someone asks you, “Como você está?” then you can answer“muito bem!”. The feature will recognize the language you’re using to chat with friends and will show suggested languages in the same language.
Lastly, illustrator Daniel Semanas has created a sticker pack localized for Brazilian users. You can update your Google Allo to be able to enjoy these new features. They also promised to add more languages to the Google Assistant and Smart Reply features, which now supports English, Hindi, Hinglish, German and Brazilian Portuguese.
