China-based outfit Huawei really upped the ante when they released the 6-inch Huawei Ascend Mate 7 phablet device September last year. It showed that Huawei was up for competing with the big boys, showing that they could launch what was visibly a premium device. It has been rumored that the company is planning on a smaller “compact” version of the phablet, and we have some leaked images for you.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 oozed of class that was now beginning to be the norm for China-based products – it had a 6-inch full HD IPS display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The device was powered by an octa-core Kirin 925 processor, backstopped by an ample 3GB of RAM. We hope that the planned “mini” version will follow in the wake of these great specs.

In the images leaked, we see a device probably with a 4.7-inch display – not unusual for “compact” versions. It’s obviously unbranded and unmarked, meaning that it could be a pre-release version – but take that with a fistful of salt. We have no way of verifying the authenticity of the images.

One detail that could disappoint users is the shot of the back of the device, where the camera and a LED flash is shown. The fingerprint sensor which was found on the original Mate 7 is nowhere to be seen. It might be that we will not be seeing that feature in the compact version, but that would be a big letdown. We hope that the feature gets thrown in in the later versions of the device.
