Beginning this March, Verizon will be rolling out a service that will fight those spam and robocallers. All Verizon subscribers will be able to take advantage of the features. Verizon’s SVP Joe Russo shared how the network has been working hard to avert malicious robocalls the past 12 months. Believe it or not, about a billion spam calls have been averted. All customers can use the said features at no extra charge so if you’re on Verizon, this is good news for you.

In the past year, Verizon did a lot of things for the customers including offer call and spam screening to wireless customers on the Call Filter service. Free alerts about a potential spam caller have also been offered to some Android users. The next step is for Verizon to offer the same to ALL customers.

Caller ID service customers have received the Spam Alerts service for free. The caller ID display will simply show ‘SPAM’ if the number is indeed a spam number as already noted by Verizon.

More improvements will be added as Verizon is presently updating the algorithm. The spam and the robocalling features have been successful so far because some 300 million phone numbers have been “filtered”.

Verizon will formally launch the service in March. Expect more details to be announced in the coming weeks.
