Alcatel continues their product rollout today with the Idol X+, their flagship handheld. The device is a bit different from what we’ve seen recently, keeping a sleek look and mature styling. Though the Idol X+ doesn’t have the playful colors of the POP series, it does make up for it under the hood.
Alcatel is quick to note the thin bezels on the Idol X+, going so far as to call them “0” bezels. They’re a very slim 2.4mm, so the claim isn’t too far off. Dan Dery, Chief Marketing Officer for Alcatel OneTouch says “The IDOL range has gained a reputation for offering the best balance of features, performance and design. The IDOL X+ continues this tradition and is set to surprise and delight with its image capture and display credentials.”
In regard to specs, the Idol X+ is a strong offering from Alcatel:
- 5-inch IPS display, 1080 x 1920 pixels
- 2 GHz octa-core processor
- 13.1 MP full HD rear camera
- 2 MP 1080p front camera
- Android 4.2
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB Memory (32GB optional)
- 7.9mm thin
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 2500mAh battery
Alcatel is one of the first to bring octa-core performance to a handset. Though they aren’t saying which manufacturer makes the processor, MediaTekis the only one with an octa-core ready for shipment, so we’ll say it’s theirs. If it were Qualcomm, we’d think there would be more fanfare involved.
The device works on all the normal cellular bands, and we’ll be looking for it on T-Mobile or AT&T. Alcatel hasn’t yet made clear the availability or pricing, so we hope to hear more about that soon. If you need a sharp device that looks the part, the Idol X+ is one to check out.
