New Mobile World Congress, new smartphones in the market to choose from. Acer announced in time for the tech convention in Barcelona two new affordable smartphones in their Liquid series: the Z220 and the Z520. The former is being touted as an affordable secondary device for those who are not just content with one or may need another one for business or extra activities while the latter is shown off for its multi-media capabilities.
The Liquid Z220 is being suggested as a decent but cheaper alternative for those upgrading from a feature phone for the first time. It’s not that complicated and is a good introduction to the joys of smartphones. But it’s also recommended for “all ages”, meaning it can be used by either the really young (although they can sometimes be more tech savvy than us) or the older generation who have no patience with difficult smartphones. It has a 4-inch WVGA display and runs on Qualcomm Dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 processor. It has 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, 5MP main camera and 2MP front camera. It will also be Acer’s first smartphone to have the Android 5.0 Lollipop. The textile pattern design of the Z220 is actually inspired by Thai silk.
Meanwhile, the Liquid Z520 is marketed as a multi-media device, with its main draw a “touch-less selfie experience”. The voice activated camera is helpful for those who take a lot of these “self-portraits” and the device’s 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED flash is the way to go. If you are fond of listening to music or watching videos on your smartphone, then the DTS Studio Sound on the Z520 should make you fairly happy.
Both Acer Liqiuid smartphones are with the OEM’s proprietary Quick Mode which will allow you to choose a mode (Basic, Easy, Standard) if you’re tired or lazy to fiddle around with the settings. There are no pricing details available yet for either device, but expect another announcement soon.
