While checking the weather through your smartphone isn’t the sexiest thing you can do on your device, but it is something that you have to do, especially if you’re traveling or need to figure out whether or not to bring an umbrella or coat. AccuWeather is one of the most popular (and supposedly accurate) weather sites and now, they’re launching a new, universal Android app that not only looks better, but should also give you more features and information that you need.
Lately when you talk of a new look for Android apps, usually Material Design is involved. And that’s the case here as well. The interface is cleaner and more organized, which is what you need from a weather app. Even the “follow me” widget has been completely redesigned, so that you can easily access the information without even opening the app. It has also been optimized for all Android devices, from smartphones to tablets and even to smartwatches.
Feature-wise, the app has enhanced several of the ones found in the previous versions, like location management, performance in dynamic radar and satellite animation, customized and localized weather information, etc. You also now get a new video experience for weather and viral video (weather related of course) content. It also has the AccuWeather MinuteCast®, which is the only minute by minute precipitation forecast on a global level.
According to Steven Smith, President of Digital Media at AccuWeather, this new app is part of their commitment to bring people accurate information regarding the weather and the “best, most relevant and localized forecasts” to help people make informed decisions in their every day lives. You can download the AccuWeather app from the Google Play Store for free.

The android wear component of this app worked for me ONCE! It has not since then even though it’s been updated a couple times. It just keeps saying, “Data Unavailable”.
The reviews since this update almost go entirely against what this article says. Sure it may be “cleaner” looking but at the cost of extremely basic functionality/usability that was there in the prior version. For instance using with the graph or the listing for hourly predictions you could see what time of day was most likely to get rain based on percentages. Totally gone now. I can only guess that whoever wrote this review either lives in the desert and doesn’t have to deal with rain or snow, or never really used the app daily to help with planning to be outside at any point.
