Google’s universal local search function in Android has been causing quite the stir. Its been a hot topic lately for the fact that Apple is suing over it. The international Samsung Galaxy S III recently received a software update that actually completely removed the feature. Which many thought was due to these lawsuits but today Samsung claims it’s coming back.
Apparently the universal local search feature was inadvertently removed by Samsung in the latest software update, and they’ll be restoring the functionality shortly. Samsung confirmed this while speaking to the folks over at TechRadar this afternoon.
“The most recent software upgrade for the Galaxy S III in the UK included the inadvertent removal of the universal search function. Samsung will provide the correct software upgrade within the next few days.”
Not only do they state that it was accidentally removed, but Sammy also mentions they’ll be restoring the functionality “within the next few days.” So we can expect another software update to arrive very shortly that will patch this oversight. The lawsuit has been an issue in the US, but not the UK and some other regions. So seeing it removed from those phones was twice as odd. Either way it looks like this awesome and much needed feature will be coming back shortly. Stay tuned!

Wow, all this time I was wondering why my S3 was lacking a search function in the applications window. The One X had it.
They never mention anything about updating it ij the U.S.
