We have some good news for all you myTouch 4G users. Today T-Mobile and HTC have finally started rolling out the update for Android 2.3 Gingerbread for your device. The T-Mobile support page mentions that a limited number of test devices will start getting the update today, July 20th, with more users receiving the OTA update in the “coming weeks”.
The odd part here is they mention it rolling out in the coming weeks and “through the end of the year”. Does this mean it will slowly over the next 6 months reach all the customers, as that would be a first. Maybe someone over at T-Mobile just worded this that way but I’m a bit confused as most OTA updates in recent past once officially start rolling out finish within a 2-3 week period.
Not only are users getting updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but they are also getting an updated Swype keyboard as well as various bug fixes specific to the device. T-Mobile specifically mentions fixes to stability to the display and bluetooth audio streaming, they’ve improved bluetooth pairing also. For now this is still in a trial period or “soak test” but in the next few weeks users should be able to manually pull the update themselves.
We have reached out to T-Mobile regarding the “through the end of the year” comment and will update with any further news.
