We’ll never knowingly turn down a glance at the future, and when that future is what Google have planned for Android further down the line we’re even more interested. The BGR have obtained an early build of Android 2.0 Eclair, and set to detailing all of the major changes over the currently public OS 1.6 build.
Top of the list of changes are better social networking integration with the contacts, with Google taking a leaf out of Motorola and HTC’s books and factoring in pop-up Facebook, Twitter and other profile details above each contact record. There’s also native Exchange support and a unified inbox.
Meanwhile the whole build is faster, and there’s some intelligent work been done on in-car usability with a new screen of large icons intended for jabbing at while driving. There’s more voice-control, including searching for POIs – such as gas stations – in mapping, while Google Maps itself has been reworked. YouTube video uploads are also made easier, with a homescreen widget that turns shooting video and adding it to the online sharing site a two-tap process.
