If you’re a frequent shopper at Target, you will soon be able to leave your wallet at home and just do your shopping with just a smartphone in your hand. That’s because the department store chain will soon let you pay for your purchases through various mobile payment platforms like Google Pay and Samsung Pay (and Apple Pay if you’re on the other side of the fence). You will also be able to make contactless payments with Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.
While we’re still in the getting people on-board phase of the mobile payment revolution, the addition of major retail stores like Target will definitely help the cause. If you have any of those solutions installed in your Android smartphone, all you have to do is hold your phone near the card reader at the checkout lanes and your purchase will be completed. If you have the sideways wave symbol on your credit or debit card, just tap the card on the reader screen and you should be done.
This isn’t the first convenient payment method that Target has introduced. Back in 2017, they brought the Wallet feature in the Target app which let you pay for the stuff that you buy with just your phone as long as you connected your Target REDcard credit or debit card. You even got 5% off your purchases as well as Weekly ad coupons and other benefits.
Target also actually has pickup and delivery options, as retail businesses like them have to explore other ways to get people to their stores or to get the products to their customers. They offer free 2-day shipping on items for those who have the REDcard as well as same-day delivery through partners like Shipt, Drive Up, Order Pickup, etc.
When you see the contactless symbol on the checkout terminal at your local target, this means they’re already accepting Google Pay and Samsung Pay, contactless cards, as well as the previously mentioned Target app. Unfortunately, for those who have REDcards, you still cannot be added to other mobile payment platforms except the Target app.
