Aside from the Moto G7, Motorola is also working on a foldable phone. Year 2019 is the year when the foldable tech will be introduced to the market. We’re not just talking about clamshell or flip phones but real foldable-flexible smartphones. We’ve been hearing about this tech for several years from Samsung but it’s only this year the Galaxy foldable phone will be announced. The Android community is anticipating that one because the South Korean tech giant has always been open about its plans.

Other mobile brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, and OPPO are also working on their own foldable phones but it may be a while before these OEMs make their announcements. As for Motorola, the Lenovo-owned brand has experience in the “foldable” category.

By foldable we mean flip phones. Remember the RAZR? Rumors abound that Motorola is reviving the phone series but this time, as a real foldable smartphone. Looks like there is truth to it because a patent was recently granted to Motorola by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) for a phone with a foldable display.

Looking at the images, the design reminds us of the RAZR V3 flip smartphone from more than a decade ago. We see a tall screen that we’re assuming is foldable-flexible. The chin is thick and the forehead is obvious so don’t expect a bezel-less display.

A hinge is found in the middle so you can fold the phone. We see a notch on top for the earpiece. We don’t think a camera is ready there. The speakers and mic are on the chin.

The back part of the smartphone shows a smaller screen. We’re assuming it turns on when the phone is folded, showing SMS, incoming calls, and other notifications. We see a camera underneath the small screen while a round fingerprint sensor is on the other half of the back panel.

Verizon is said to reveal the Motorola RAZR foldable phone exclusively by February. We can’t say if Motorola will make the announcement at the Mobile World Congress. We just heard about 200,000 units will be produced with the price reaching $1,500.
