LG G8 ThinQ Concept

Last year, LG was bold enough not to launch its 2018 flagship phone during the Mobile World Congress. The other South Korean tech giant delayed the announcement of the LG G7 to 2nd quarter instead of the usual MWC launch. The company also thought of rebranding the G-series that’s why some changes were made. The G phone remained as a premium offering and decided to adopt the ThinQ technology so expect the LG G8 to be officially called as the LG G8 ThinQ.

CES is on-going and there’s no new phone from LG. It plans to make the LG G8 official once again at the MWC 2019.

This may be another bold move by LG because this means it will need to compete with other big OEMs like Samsung. The latter has already confirmed a February 20 launch which is a bit early than the annual mobile tech event in Barcelona.

Two things can happen: LG can lord over all other brands or the new product can be overshadowed by other phones. For the MWC 2019, the LG G8 ThinQ will directly compete with the Samsung Galaxy S10–or not.

Maybe LG already knows it can’t match the Galaxy S10 but there’s another name it needs to think about–Xiaomi. Rumor has it the Chinese OEM will also launch new items on the same day as LG planned.

Should LG really worry about Xiaomi and not Samsung? Ah, yes. Xiaomi is known for introducing revolutionary products at such affordable price points so that is hard to beat.

MWC 2019 seems to be looking more exciting than ever. Let’s wait and see.
