While you can always get stylus accessories if you want to be able to write or draw on your smartphone, having a built-in one is probably much better. So far, you only have two choices among the main brands, the Note series and the LG Stylo series. If the former is much too expensive for your budget, then you will have to settle for the latter. If that is something that’s okay with you, then you’ll be pleased to know that they will be releasing a new device, the LG Q Stylus, the latest addition to their mid-range Q Series.
They are marketing this smartphone as a midrange device with premium features for those who prefer to have handwritten input. Since there is very little competition in the market, it’s either you can afford a Note device (even the older ones are still relatively expensive) or you will just go for the new LG Q Stylus. It will be available in several configurations specifically the Q Stylus+, Q Stylus and Q Stylusα. All devices will have a 6.2-inch Full HD + FullVision Display with an 18:9 screen ratio, thin bezel, and curved tempered glass. It will be powered by either a 1.5GHz or 1.8GHz octa-core chipset. The differences between the three variants are in the memory and camera specs. They are as follows:
Q Stylus+: 4GB RAM / 64GB ROM / microSD (up to 2TB) Rear 16MP with PDAF / Front 8MP or 5MP with Super Wide Angle
Q Stylus: 3GB RAM / 32GB ROM / microSD (up to 2TB) Rear 16MP with PDAF / Front 8MP or 5MP with Super Wide Angle
Q Stylusα: 3GB RAM / 32GB ROM / microSD (up to 2TB) Rear 13MP with PDAF / Front 5MP with Super Wide Angle
The QLens is a feature that is sort of similar to the Google Lens in that when you capture an image on your camera, it will bring you information as to where you can buy that item or products that are similar to it. LG is also pushing the device’s sound quality as it has the DTS:X with up to 7.1 channel 3D surround sound for your earphones. It is also IP68 certified for water and dust protection and is MIL-STD 810G compliant. It comes with a 3300mAh battery and a Smart Rear Key fingerprint sensor.
But of course, the “shining jewel” of this device is its stylus. Aside from the fact that you can use it for handwriting recognition, it also has palm rejection features so that your palm won’t get in the way. You can also write on your screen even when your display is off, similar to the Note’s Screen Off Memo feature. You can also use the stylus to personalize your captured images and to create animated GIFs. However, don’t expect the LG Q Stylus to be like the Note 8, given the price difference. It is not pressure sensitive and is more like a capacitive stylus with slightly better precision than the stubby rubber styluses that you can buy for cheap.
Compared to previous Stylus (or Stylo, depending on which market it’s released), the LG Q Stylus is slightly better specs-wise than the older Stylus 3 or Stylus 2. But that isn’t really saying much for a mid-tier device. It’s also very similar to the LG Q7 that they recently announced, except that it of course has a stylus. LG hasn’t released a price point for this new device yet but it will be launching this month in North America and Asia.
