DON’T UPDATE YET. This is what Sony and those people who already updated their headphones and earbuds want to say to you. The company earlier released a software update that would bring support for the much-awaited Google Assistant but unfortunately, something went wrong. A bunch of Sony earphones received the 2.0.0 firmware update with Google Assistant but there have been numerous complaints. The common problems are related to the headphones being bricked. So that’s unfortunate and annoying at the same time.
What should have been helpful is now deemed a problem. Not that this type of problem never happened before but this is widespread and affects not just one model but about six variants. Specifically, the headphones and earbuds affected are as follows: WI-1000X, WF-1000X, WH-1000XM2, WH-CH900N, WH-CH700N, and H.ear on 2 WH-H900N.
An over-the-air update rolled out yesterday, only to be pulled. This is unfortunate and we’re surprised something major like this passed through quality control. But you know, anything can happen. Samsung, for one, has been halting Oreo update releases.
Sony sent out a warning that the software update has been delayed.
If you happen to own any of the Sony Earphone models mentioned above, DON’T UPDATE. DO. NOT. UPDATE. Don’t update lest you want a bricked pair.
