Let’s be honest here. Not every gift that you receive from a loved one or an acquaintance is something that you find useful or even interesting. We’ve seen comedy shows (and even dramas) devote a whole episode on the hijinks involved when trying to secretly return or exchange a gift. Now Google can be part of that drama, if the gift you received is from the Google Store as you can now return the gifts for store credit, but only if it has been sent to you as a gift.
If you didn’t know it yet, you can actually buy things on Google Store and send as a gift to a friend or family member. You just need to mark it as a gift because that’s what will determine if they can return it later on. If you’re the receiver of a gift that you don’t actually need or want, you now have the option to return it to the Google Store. But hold your horses. You won’t get cash in return. You’ll get store credit so you can later on buy what you really want.
All you have to do is go to the gift return page and sign in to your Google account so it will autofill some important information. It should then be able to see the orders that you received as gifts (if there are more than one), choose which one you want to return, and then submit it to Google. You will then receive return an email with the return shipping labels so you can post the device back to Google.
Once it has already reached the Google Store, you can then receive credits to your account in the amount of the original purchase cost. Just be prepared for the awkward silence when your mother asks you how you’re loving the new Google Home that she sent you.
