The big hullaballoo about OLED screens on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL last year was that people couldn’t seem to make up their minds about how good or how bad the displays were. Some praised the quality of the OLED screens, while some users felt that the colors were too dull. This is why Google added color modes to give the users the colors they wanted – of which the current modes are Natural, Boosted, and Saturated. But a new color mode could be arriving with Android P, a possible Automatic color mode.
According to the people at XDA, there are possible new color settings that have been found in the code for Android P Developer Preview 2. A reference to an “Automatic” color mode that is not available at this point. The description for the setting says that it will “Adjust between vivid and accurate colors”.
If that be the case, then this new color mode might be the go-to mode for most users once Android P arrives for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. There will be times that users would want rich and vivid colors, but other times opt for a more realistic color approach. If we’re reading this right, Automatic mode would allow the user to enjoy the benefits of both worlds.
We’re not sure as to how this new mode will work, if even it makes it to production. There’s a good chance that it might use Google’s vaunted machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities.
