Today there’s one big fat announcement coming from Samsung on two new fabulous additions to their massively-successful Galaxy S line. What’ll it be? Something gigantic? Something tiny and thin? How about a little of both, and without any network connection? Sounds intriguing! How about if we tell you that the two devices announced in this post have no plans for release in the USA whatsoever? A terrifying prospect to be sure! What ever will we use to stopper the hunger for such a unique device?

What you’re looking at here is two different size screens on two different devices with very similar guts. First there’s the Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 4.0, this letting you know that the device is 4-inch, it’s resolution being 800 x 480 pixels, and its name being WVGA Super Clear LCD. The other version is 5.0 and has a slightly different situation going on – 5-inch, WVGA TFT LCD, and 800 x 480 pixel resolution again. Does that alone let you know which display is the superior one? It should!

Inside both devices have Android 2.2 Froyo, work with a 1GHz processor, and have 3.2-megapixel cameras on the back – 5.0 has an LED flash while 4.0 does not, and both have a VGA camera on the front. Both of these devices have the ability to play MP3, WMA9, Ogg, Flac, AAC, both have a 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speaker, and both feature Stereo FM Radio. Both devices have GPS, and both work on Wifi 802.11 (b/g/n). Both have 8 / 16 GB + microSD (up to 32GB), and then the differences start flowing in. While the 4.0 version of this device has an Accelerometer, Digital Compass, Proximity, and Light sensor, the 5.0 version only has an Accelerometer and a Digital Compass. The larger of the two devices has a 2,500mAh battery in it, and the smaller of the two has a 1200mAh.

Time to grab em, or is the non-carrier mobile device ready to go the way of the dinosaur? Let the Wifi be your guide. Check out the full press release below.

  1. I was so hoping to get one of them instead of the crappy ipod touch. I really hope that they come out in America or that I can at least buy one online somewhere. I think some companies should get into putting Android on media players. I would so love an HTC media player to go along with my Evo. Any word on a release date? I want to free myself from my ipod video which was and will be my last apple product purchase ever!!!

    •  The iPod touch is far from crappy, Carminuch. You’re just another blind Apple hater. I’m no Apple fan boy but they are awesome devices.

      • Agreed. The iPod Touch is great, but only a 3.5inch screen. I am very happy to change to the Samsung 5.0 inch to get the larger screen size. But I would stay with Aplle if they could bring out a 5 inch Touch. Seems short sighted of Apple and a bold move by Samsung. Now, where are they?

  2.  I just got Galaxy S wifi 4.0 in Korea!!! The camera is awesome yet it doen not support 720p recording!!! THe display is very crispy and bright!! I hope Samsung sell these in USA too!!!

  3. There on the Best Buy website for $229 for the 4.0 it says pre-order and $269 for the 5.0 it says coming soon.

  4. I phoned Sammy and they had no idea when there would be a release date for the 4.0 and 5.0 inch versions in the USA. That’s disappointing.

  5. I’d really like to know what the hold-up is on the US batch. We are here too, You don’t have to cater to us Sammy, just a release withing a week of the rest of the world would be nice!

    Sincerely, Angry Samsung Fan

  6. If they had HDMI port, I will start saving to buy. Unfortunately no, that makes me prefer a cheap android tablet Chinese products that has HDMI port.

  7. Is the Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 the same as the Galaxy player 5.0? I see two different devices that I think are the same just a different name??

    • I also think the same. Did someone asnwer your question? I recently got a Galaxy Player 5.0, and I am having issues to find accesories. Instead tehre are lot of accesories for Galasy S Wifi 5.0, which looks exactly the same to me. Thanks!
