T-Mobile really knows how to take it to the competition and they’re proud about it. It’s even come to a point where they want to lure AT&T users away by giving them a service for free, that is ironically owned by, you guessed it, AT&T. That is the un-carrier’s latest move, where they’re offering DirecTV NOW for free if AT&T customers would jump ship to a “faster, more advanced LTE network” to be able to take full advantage of the video streaming service.

Basically, what T-Mobile is offering for those wanting to make the switch from AT&T is that they will get a year’s subscription to DirecTV NOW, their recently launched video on demand streaming service. John Legere, the outspoken CEO of the un-carrier says that both DirecTV and DirecTV NOW is not the exclusive property of AT&T since they’re streaming it for free on T-Mobile. And now the latter wants to show the former’s users that they can “actually take care of customers” by giving high-speed Internet to be able to stream freely.

But of course there’s a slight (actually not so slight) catch. You will need to activate two lines on T-Mobile, so you better carry a friend along or force a family member to go to the un-carrier as well. You will have to subscribe to the T-Mobile ONE and they’ve made it in such a way that you would have to stay with them for at least a year, the duration of the DirecTV NOW free subscription.

It’s a pretty strange incentive to offer unsatisfied AT&T customers since after all the streaming service is owned by the same company. But T-Mobile says they don’t offer any guarantees about DirecTV NOW, but even if the users won’t be happy with it, at least they still get to have “a faster, more advanced network” at a “better price”.
