If part of your New Year’s resolution is to finally get an Android smartphone and switch to a new platform from iOS, then you probably would need all the help you can get if you have a gazillion files to transfer from your old phone to the new one. Even as you’re still waiting for that new device, you can already start preparing to backup your files and all you have to do is download and/or update your Google Drive.
The Android website actually published a step-by-step, detailed process of the very complicated process of backing up your files and transferring them. And when we say complicated, we’re being pleasantly sarcastic. They actually gave three easy steps on how you can do it and not break a sweat. First of all, you would need to download the Google Drive app on your iOS device and then sign in with your existing Google account. If you don’t have one yet, you can easily create an account immediately. And if you already have Google Drive, make sure you’re updated to the latest version.
Next, when you’re in Google Drive already, you would need to backup your content by going to the Menu > Settings > Backup of your app. You can choose specific files or folders that you would want to save or if you’re too lazy to do that or you have too many files, then you can just back up everything and all you have to do is click “Start Backup”. Finally, when your Android device is ready, just sign in to your Google account and voila, everything should be there already.
Just make sure that you use the same account for your Google Drive and your Google account on your Android device. You’ll be able to see your photos in Google Photos. Your contacts will be synced in the Contacts app. And you’ll be able to see all your events in Google Calendar. Happy migrating!
