After adding videos ala Snapchat, Instagram is introducing yet another video feature. In the United States, live videos are now available for avid Instagram users who like to share beyond those squares and videos. Just like in Facebook, live videos can now be shared from the app for your followers to see in real time.
It was first revealed but only as a rumor a couple of months ago and then officially announced last month. The live videos are now officially part of the Stories feature that’s been poised to rival Snapchat. While the Live Videos feature is more similar to Facebook Live, it’s another attempt by the top social network to drive more people to the site and away from YouTube. Facebook owns Instagram so this one is an obvious effort to do so.
Instagram live stories is much easier and convenient to use with its simpler interface and straight-to-the-point functions. To start live videos, swipe to the left of the screen and you will see the Stories camera open. Choose the ‘Live’ switch and start streaming. Videos are viewable only in real time. You cannot view the live videos after broadcasting them.
On the Explore tab on Instagram, you will see the “Top Live” category where the trending live videos can be accessed. This feature comes with the latest version of Instagram so feel free to download from the Google Play Store.
