You don’t plan to buy any smartwatch soon because you can still get a lot of mileage out of your Samsung Gear S2. But you also can’t help but gaze longingly at the shiny new Gear S3 with all its functionalities and features. Fear not though, because the latest update to the former will allow users to “enrich their experience with Gear S3 functions”. In other words, your “old” smartwatch will be new again, with just one update.
More customization is one of the enhanced features, and this time you get the Gear S3’s preloaded watch faces in the package. You also get the Reminders app to manage your tasks and the Alti-Barometer to track outdoor activities and measure air pressure. S Health also gets better as it can track more activities like elliptical and rowing machines and it can automatically count reps for some standard exercises like squats, lunges, crunches, etc. It even now has an Auto Pause feature in case you need to take a break,
The Gear S2’s intuitive bezel gets an upgrade too as a clockwise turn will answer or acknowledge an alert sent to you while the other direction will reject a call or stop an alarm. When it comes to messages, it will now allow you to scrawl messages in English, Chinese, or Korean as whole words and not per character. You can even insert emojis and sketches into your messages. You can now also use voice input to dictate text and make voice recordings as well. You also now can incorporate 3rd party widgets like from Uber, Yelp, USA Today, etc.
The safety features of the Gear S2 will also be enhanced. You press the home button three times and it will send an SOS to your pre-set contacts and will show your exact location through partner app Glympse. Lastly, you will get access to all the games in the Galaxy Apps store. The update has started rolling out already and will reach the rest of the world over the next few weeks.
