The Google Nexus line may have ended but the past Nexus phones are still alive and ready for everyday mobile use. Nexus owners are curious if their phones are still eligible for the next Nougat update. Android 7.0 came to some Nexus devices and now we’ve got news that they will soon receive the next version–Android 7.1.1. Only the Pixel and Pixel are running 7.1 but now even the Nexus will get the update.
The Pixel C, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P can now be updated to Android 7.1. However, they are only developer previews. They will be ready beginning December 5 and will be released over-the-air so expect to receive OTA notifications anytime soon. The Android team didn’t make the official announcement but Vodafone Australia published some notes that included the date of release.
With the update, the Pixel and Pixel XL will get the ‘lift to check phone’ and ‘double-tap to check phone’. The Nexus 6P version of the Android 7.1.1 Nougat is around 650MB so make sure you have enough space. This already includes additions to the emoji, app shortcuts, and security fixes.
According to Vodafone, around 10,000 Nexus phones will receive the particular software update within the first three days. For then more days, 10% of devices will receive the update and added each day. All eligible users can get the so update on day 14 but before that, you need to check manually if the new version is ready.
