If you got yourself a Samsung Gear S3 but if your paired smartphone is not one of the newer Samsung Galaxy devices, chances were you couldn’t use Samsung Pay for your online and offline purchases. Well, that is until Samsung announced yesterday that you can now actually do so. Now, there are more details on how you will be able to connect your account and use it to pay for goods you buy at stores or through in-app purchases, even if you’re paired with non-Galaxy smartphones.
First step of course is you have to update your Gear Manager application to the latest version. Once updated, you’ll see a dedicated Samsung Pay configuration menu under the S Health app. When you tap, you’ll see the step-by-step instructions that you need to follow, which includes creating an account with your credit/debit card information (and of course your bank has to be one of those that supports Samsung Pay.)
Once you’ve done that, then you’ll be able to use your Gear S3 smartwatch to make payments, but not the non-Galaxy smartphone that you’ve paired with your device. Samsung Pay is still limited to selected Samsung Galaxy smartphones, particularly the newer ones.
The Samsung Gear S3 is an LTE-capable smartwatch which you can use as a standalone device or if you want to pair it with a smartphone. To be able to use the Samsung Pay functionality, the connected device needs to be running on Android 4.4 and above.
