The Google Pixel smartphones have finally broken cover and Google is already whetting the crowd’s appetite with features as well as availability of the two new smartphones. And while the smartphone will, of course, be available from the Google Store, retailers, and carriers, it is doing something different in the US. For the first time, the Google smartphone will be available in the US from Verizon and Verizon alone, at least for a model purchased from a carrier.
The Google Pixel pretty much looks what we expected it to be, warts and all. Google seems to be pretty proud of the high-gloss glass back, which still looks pretty weird. It also has no camera bump, which is admittedly a rarity among high end smartphones these days. And despite that, the Pixel still garnered DxOMark’s highest score of 89.
The Google Pixel is also the first smartphone to get Google Assistant built-in. The AI helper is Google’s latest foray into the field and is the core focus of its future vision. Google bills it as creating your own personal AI. We will definitely await what comes out of that.
The Google Pixel is now available for pre-order in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, and Germany, with India following on 13th October. Prices start at $649, or $27 per month with the usual two-year contract. And, amusingly enough, Google will be offering the Pixel in a totally new color of Really Blue.
