While YouTube is still one of the most visited sites and used apps in the world, not everyone enjoys a buffer-free and data-saving experience, especially those who live in countries where Internet connectivity is still an issue. But Google wants to be available to as many people as possible, and so one of their newest projects is a product called YouTube Go. It is an app that will make it easier for users to save videos for viewing offline later, as well as share it with people who are nearby.

The app was actually inspired by and built for India, wherein Internet connectivity is still a problem. For now, people are stuck with super slow Internet and data, and so YouTube is one of those apps that they really like, but it is constantly buffering or disconnecting. So basically, YouTube Go is a brand to help bring access to the millions of videos that are being constantly uploaded to the video sharing channel. It was designed with four concepts in mind: relatable, offline first, cost-effective, and a social experience.

You will be able to discover recommended and trending videos right on the home screen, and it is localized as well so that you’ll find out what’s happening in your own communities. Before you watch or save a video, you can preview it by tapping on a thumbnail, to make sure it’s worth saving or downloading. You will also be able to choose the resolution of the video, whether you’re streaming it now or you’re saving it for later. Sharing videos with friends who are nearby is also possible, without spending on data.

YouTube Go will rollout in India first, with the beta version now available for testing for those who’d like to experience it first. Hopefully, it will also roll out to other markets soon.
