We are just a few days away from the official announcement of Xiaomi’s new smartphone, what we’ve been calling the Mi 5s, and so all the teasers and leaks have been coming out of the woodwork. The upcoming smartphone has supposedly scored high on the AnTuTu benchmark and so they are of course touting this. Their CEO Lei Jun has also reportedly outed the first image taken from the dual camera and the name itself may have also been confirmed through the EFIX data.
Xiaomi sent out invites to the September 27 event last Monday, but now they have also released teasers using the leaked benchmark score, putting the numbers 164119 on the image. Scoring this high should only be expected, given the impressive specs of the phone that have been released so far. It is expected to be powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor with Adreno 530 GPU and to have a 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and with MIUI 8 on top.
As for the camera, the rumor is that it will have a dual rear camera and this may have been confirmed by their CEO when he posted an image allegedly taken with the Mi 5s. And of course it’s a sunset picture that looks awesome, probably because of the dual cam with the f/2.0 aperture, ISO 100 and 1/750s shutter speed. The EFIX data also names the device as the Mi 5s so that may be confirmation of the device’s name, if you weren’t convinced of the press invite with the giant S in the first place.
With all of these high-end specs, including an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a pressure-sensitive display, you would think that it will be expensive. But of course since this is Xiaomi, it probably wouldn’t. Rumors are pegging the price at around CNY 1,999 or $299. There are also rumors of a bigger variant, the Mi 5S Plus which will have a 5.7-inch display and 256 internal storage.
