As much as you would probably love to visit actual museums that would showcase the various animals and species that were in existence way beyond your generation, not everyone would be able to do so. And of course the next best thing would be an online museum, this time enhanced through the wonders of virtual reality. Google Arts & Culture, that wonderful repository of everything that has to do with its name, is bringing us a brand new online exhibit that would let you explore the world of those wonderful prehistoric creatures like the dinosaurs.

More than just the creatures that chased the people in Jurassic Park movies, dinosaurs have fascinated people for years, whether you’re a scientist or just a human with a healthy appreciation of such things. For this exhibit, Google has brought together more than 50 leading natural history institutions from around the world in order to give you 150 interactive stories, over 300,000 photos and videos, and 30 virtual tours you can go on. And these tours can be all the more enhanced with virtual reality technology if you have a VR headset like Google Cardboard.

With virtual reality, you get to explore things like the Rhomaleosaurus, a 180 million year old, humongous sea dragon, the Giraffitain, a 42 feet giant dinosaur that is twice as tall as the modern giraffes we see now. The Natural History Museum of course has several contributions, including a history of life timeline. Through Google Street View, you will also be able to explore walking through the “shoes” of dinosaurs or dive underwater with the turtles. You can also go on a walking tour of more than 30 natural history museums all around the world.

The best thing about this online exhibit aside from the actual content? It’s absolutely free. Just head on over to g.co/naturalhistory or through the Google Arts & Culture app.
