You would think that any normal navigation app would incorporate such a basic feature like speed limits, which may differ in various places but is a common occurrence everywhere. But apparently, some folks over at Google thought otherwise. It was just lately that the first signs of this appearing on Google Maps showed up in its APK. Now, some users seem to be seeing the speed limits showing up not just on the navigation app for your smartphones, but also on Android Auto.
During the release of Google Map’s version 9.35 beta a few weeks ago, one user spotted the speed limit support in the app’s APK. There was also a toggle under the Navigation Settings that will supposedly show what’s the speed limit in the area you’re in or turn it off, but nothing really happened when you toggled it. Now, it seems like this feature has been officially turned on, at least for some users.
The speed limit showed up in both Android Auto and Google Maps for some people, and it shows on the lower right hand corner of the screen. Technically, it should also be showing the current speed of the vehicle you’re driving or the one you’re on, but it looks like it’s not yet showing up there. And while we’d like for the app to tell you if you’re going over the limit, it doesn’t seem like it at this point in time.
The feature is probably server-side switched so you can’t force it to appear on your app. You just have to wait for the update to roll out to you or if Google Maps makes an official announcement or an APK will be available.

Finally… But will Google sell your speed vs speed limit to the cops o.O
