The global recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 because of reports of exploding batteries has been in effect for a few days now. There has been around 35 reports of the battery malfunctions, but none has actually caused damage. But now a Reddit user from Australia has claimed that the spontaneous combustion of the smartphone has caused damage to his hotel room in Perth. Fortunately, it did not harm the individual much, but damage to property doesn’t look good for the device.

The poster named Crushader said he is originally from Melbourne but was on a business trip to Perth and Brisbane when the incident occurred in his hotel room. He was charging his device overnight, when it suddenly exploded and left the phone “completely fried”. Aside from losing the phone that way, it also charred the bedsheets and when he tried to put it out by whacking the device on the floor, the carpet was also damaged. Plus, he slightly burned his finger while putting out the fire.

He posted pictures of the aftermath of the combustion and it really does look like someone fried the device. Of course he got in touch with Samsung for this problem and the OEM has offered to supply him with a replacement device and also to cover the damages to the hotel room, estimated at around $1,382.

This is first of two cases reported in the country, with most of the exploded phones reported in South Korea. There have been around 51,060 Galaxy Note 7 unites across Australia that have already been recalled. The user, later on identified as Tham Hui, said that he knew of the recall but did not receive anything “official from Samsung themselves”.
