All of us who use Instagram have probably experienced the frustration of looking at a picture and wanting to zoom in on the image, but obviously you can’t. What you can do is screenshot it and then zoom when you view it in the gallery. But that would of course involve a few more steps. But now the photo sharing giant has finally added the zoom feature and even greater news is that it’s not just for photos, but even for videos.

The changes to Instagram over the past few months have been hit or miss, with the logo rebranding considered by many to be a definite miss, longer videos a sure fire hit, and Instagram Stories somewhere in between. But one of their most requested features has been the ability to zoom in to images, and finally, you can look at that cute cat’s face up close or check out the intricate design on the dress of your favorite celebrity.

As an added bonus, you can also zoom in to the videos posted. You will also be able to look more closely at that cute guy or girl behind the birthday celebrant or check if that shadow in the background is a ghost or an optical illusion. You will also be able to zoom in on profile photos and also those that are on the Explore tab.

The announcement from Instagram said that they rolled out to iOS first and Android will follow in the coming weeks. But some Android users have reported that they are able to use the zoom feature as well, so it’s probably a server-side switch. Happy zooming, Instagrammers!
